Ryan Maxwell, of the Societally Endorsed Aquaculture research module, and Dr. Ramón Filgueira of the Carrying Capacity research module have published a new paper in Marine Policy. This research provides a social network analysis of stakeholders in the controversial Grieg NL Placentia Bay Atlantic Salmon Aquaculture project currently underway in Newfoundland, Canada. Key stakeholders are identified, as are the underlying themes that lay the groundwork for opposition between these stakeholders. The authors also critique the government’s conflicting role as both a regulator and a promoter of the industry in this case as a potential barrier to the industry’s social acceptability and proper management.
