Ramón Filgueira is an Assistant Professor in the Marine Affairs Program at Dalhousie University and holds a 20% Professor Tier II position at the Institute of Marine Research (Bergen, Norway). Dr. Filgueira has worked extensively in novel applications of mathematical modelling to aquaculture management and planning, with emphasis on production and ecological carrying capacity as one of the key components to implement an ecosystem approach to aquaculture. Before his appointment at Dalhousie (March 2016), Dr. Filgueira was a NSERC Visiting Fellow (2012-2015) and Research Scientist (2015-2016) at Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO). He has published more than 50 peer-reviewed scientific publications and his work has been used to provide scientific advice to DFO. The impact of his research on carrying capacity assessment was recognized by DFO in 2015, when as part of the carrying capacity research group at the Gulf Fisheries Centre was awarded the Prix d’Excellence, DFO’s most prestigious award. Dr. Filgueira maintains international collaborations with researchers from Norway, Germany, Spain and the United States of America.
