Tracking trash: Citizen science app expanded to include N.L.-specific debris

The Placentia Bay Ocean Debris Survey team has recently developed a new categorization sheet for shoreline surveys that is tailored to marine plastics common in Newfoundland waters. The sheet is based off of over 1 year of continuous shoreline debris research in the region of Placentia Bay and is likely to be representative for most of the island, and potentially for other parts of Atlantic Canada.

The new categorization sheet is open access, as is all of the debris logged under it. It can be accessed as a selection within the Marine Debris Tracker application, a free smart phone app developed and lead by Dr. Jenna Jambeck at the University of Georgia, and her Citizen Science Manager Kathryn Youngblood.
