Gerald Singh, Zaman Sajid and Charlie Mather have published a paper in Scientific Reports on the rise of mass mortality events in salmon aquaculture

The paper, which is open access and available here, shows that mass mortality events in salmon aquaculture have increased between 2012 and 2022. These are events where many fish die in a short period of time. The authors argue that these events may increase in the future with a changing ocean environment, and as aquaculture production intensifies expands into riskier areas for production, including in the offshore. Their paper has been covered by major international media outlets including the BBC and several others: iNews, Technologynetworks, ScienceMag.
