Jonathan Stone was raised in Clarenville, Newfoundland and Labrador. His passion for boats and his love of the ocean led him to pursue a degree in Ocean and Naval Architectural Engineering at Memorial University of Newfoundland, which he completed in May of 2018. Upon completion of his bachelor’s degree, Jonathan decided to continue his education as a Master of Engineering student at Memorial University working under the joint supervision of Dr. Lorenzo Moro and Dr. Barbara Neis. The topic of his research is the Effect of Noise Exposure on Workers in Aquaculture Facilities where he will attempt to identify common sources of noise in aquaculture, determine typical noise levels experienced by the workers, and test potential mitigation methods to reduce exposure levels.

When Jonathan is not doing research, he loves to spend his time being physically active; whether it is playing sports, such as hockey or golf, weight lifting, or hiking trails across the island. He also enjoys volunteering in his free time, assisting the Gathering Place in providing support to the homeless population of St. John’s and the Johnson Geo Centre with organizing various events for the community. Jonathan has also been acting as a committee member on both local and international committees for the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (SNAME) since May of 2015.
